World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.
If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it is upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the current level of the item. The cost increases with the item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of the equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack attributes of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of an item will be available during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even in the event that they don't know how much it will be improved after a reset.
The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items to increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, as well as some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as possible up to 15 levels.
In the endgame you'll find that the best way to improve your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15, and they provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.
Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is commonly known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When the player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same type. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded. If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, which will come with an initial level and a different set of extra bonuses. Requirements

The upgrade of armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the damage base as well as the required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert to its initial condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.
If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally, the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). If an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. Premium items have different upgrade requirements than standard gear--for instance, they might require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
