Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading their performance. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.
Rare-grade equipment is often superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using a professional or higher salvage kit to salvage upgrades from the items.
The amount of damage an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. The damage absorption of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before.
There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. Certain upgrades give armor an additional amount of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below.
A few upgrades are magical or a combination of technology and magic, which is indicated by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require a charge to use, which is identified by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest method to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be gathered through exploring the surroundings and looting minor loot chests. The process of upgrading an armor piece to its maximum upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense capabilities however, the user must be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its speed and agility. For this reason, it is typically not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces that are higher than +9 because the increase in defense is typically not worth the extra weight and power cost of the improvements required.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For instance an upgrade can improve the damage that is caused by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of the rifle that snipes. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades for weapons require the use of a whetblade, or one of the three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.

Instead, you're much better off going to stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These items have a better chance of granting you the highest level of blessings and perks.
The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they most often use to make sure they are able to level up quicker. All levels of jewels can be made at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for these. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped with a jewel of the same type without destroying the original one. You can only replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.
It is typical to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. The jewels also improve performance and create a surface harder than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.
In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also get glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and can be swapped freely however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are items of equipment that bestow many small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They are available in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available through vendors and after doing road interaction. item upgrading can also be made by jewelers, and then found or purchased from the Trading Post.
The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which grants a small but useful bonus to speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in a similar fashion to how the player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.

This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand will pick a pink or green ward, based on the matchup. These choices can affect the ability of a hero to control the map.
